This membership option is designed to appeal to those couples who
can
only attend the club once or twice during the term of the membership.
(ie. those in town for a business trip or a couple of weeks vacation)
Couples who attend more frequently (3 or more times over the
life
of the membership) will find that a regular Silver or Gold
Membership
will be more economical over the long term. This membership is
specifically geared to couples travelling through Toronto for a short
period. Some couples have chosen this as a first "trial membership"
as well. It is not however designed nor priced for ongoing membership
to Club Eros.
We welcome your feedback on this new membership option.
Which membership is right for you??
Very simply, how often you plan to come out to the club will determine which membership package works out the most economical for you:
If you feel that you will only be able to attend once or twice over the course of the 3 month membership, then the "No Frills" membership will work out to be the best for you.
If you think you will attend more often than two times over the course of the 1 year membership, then a Silver Card membership is your best choice and will be the less expensive alternative for you in the long run.
If you think you will attend once
a month or more over the course of the 1 year
membership (average),
then
a Gold Card
membership
is your best choice and is the best value membership for those who
attend
the club frequently
(If you attend as few as 12 times in
a calendar year, you will save money with a Gold Card!)

From time to time we get inquiries from both current and prospective members about our firm stand on our membership policy. Most long term members totally understand the how and the why but over time, its importance has been lost on newcomers.
In a nutshell, our membership policy serves several important administrative functions in operating our club. But these all pale in comparison to one overwhelming reason. Easily the single most important is that it defines us legally as a private club. Even if for no other cause, this alone is sufficient and compelling reason enough to implement and maintain this policy.
To better understand the rationale behind this, it is important to remember that not everyone views our lifestyle with the open-minded acceptance that we ourselves regard it from within. This is most especially true of “the powers that be”, whether they be those in government or law enforcement. In fact it would be an understatement to say that they collectively have a continued and ongoing interest in any lifestyle outside of the mainstream. This is true of our lifestyle as any other “alternative” and easily borne out by the many, many swing clubs over the years to be brought before the courts. What you may not be aware of is that with only one exception, up until this year each of these legal problems resulted in the conviction of the club, its owners and often many of its members. That one exception is our club - Club Eros. We won our year-long court battle back in 1992, and were the first swing club in Canada ever to do so and thereby set an important legal precedent. Recently a club in Montreal, which was previously found guilty at several lower court levels, appealed their conviction to the Supreme Court of Canada and also finally won the case on the same basis we did all those years ago.
The story of how we won is actually a long one, but to try to
condense
it, we won on two interrelated grounds:
1 We are conscious of the legal limits of behaviour at our club (which are VERY
broad but do have some limitations)
and take great pains not to exceed those;
and
2 We operate under a strict and firm membership policy. (In
fact this is likely the more important of the two as the judge very
specifically
said that without our membership policy the result would have been much
different. — The issue of membership was also an integral part of the
Montreal case but it was totally overlooked by the media in their
reporting - they focused solely on the sensational aspects of the case,
ignoring the important basics of the court decision of how and why)
By operating a membership club to which the general public does not have access gives us far more legal latitude than operating a public venue, and offers a good measure of protection to our members and ourselves in regard to club activities. But ignoring the membership umbrella would needlessly place our members at very real legal risk.
This important legal issue has escaped the
notice of several new club owners who are either wilfully blind or
misinformed
on the dangers. The reality though is: those couples who
attend
swing
clubs that do not control their admissions by a firm membership policy
place themselves at very real risk.
By this we mean any swing club that allows access to the general public.
(Trying to skirt the issue by offering “optional memberships” and still
allowing nonmembers to repeatedly return does not fit into legally
having
a membership policy that complies with the court ruling) Some
other club owners may be trying to merely guess or even to put their
own "spin" on the ruling, but we were the ones right in the courtroom
and heard it
directly from the judges lips, so we do
know
what we are talking
about. (Remember, that Canadian law
is based heavily on "case law", which means it's not so much what's
written in the "code", but what judges have previously ruled that is of
vital importance!)
Frankly any club owner who places their patrons at risk in this fashion, whether through naivety, malice or greed, does not deserve their attendance or support. If the club which you attend does not care enough about you to operate in a responsible manner, you should look elsewhere. Check out their policies, not only the “official” membership rules, but how they are applied in practise. If couples consistently return to a club without benefit of membership, then any “official” policy they may have is a mere mockery, and will eventually result in problems for you.
When the proverbial “shit hits the fan” (and notice I said
“when”,
not “if”), the club owners, and all those attending will sadly be
in
a position of having to explain what they are doing in the court
system.
Having been that route in the past, we can tell you that it is very
expensive,
totally demeaning, not at all fun but most importantly, because of the
hard-won precedent which we here at Club Eros set, it is
entirely
avoidable. If you are attending a club that does not insist on a
membership
to attend, do yourself a big favour and look elsewhere. You’ll be
avoiding
a whole mess of trouble and expense in the long run.
